The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan R is the latest VW car to receive the R treatment, which means a sportier design and enhanced performance.

Currently, Volkswagen has made a Golf R, a T-Roc R, Touareg R, and it’s preparing an ID R. 

The R treatment means that the SUV now boasts of a more aggressive design, more power, upgraded suspension (lowered), stiffer springs, and launch control.

What’s new in the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan R

For the exterior design, the Tiguan R receives some upgrades which allows it to stand out from the other versions while adding a touch of aggressiveness.

It also comes with a bunch of standard equipment that usually comes as options in most Volkswagen cars.

Some of the exterior features of the Volkswagen Tiguan R are:

  • A roof spoiler
  • R badging
  • Aggressive front and rear bumper
  • Rear diffuser
  • Quad exhaust pipes
  • 21” alloy rims
  • Blue brake calipers
  • Tinted windows
  • Satin roof bars

For the interior, the Tiguan also finds some new upgrades over the standard model like:

  • Sportier Trim
  • Blue ambient lights
  • Blue stitching
  • R steering wheel
  • Sport Seats
  • R badging

The Tiguan R gets the same engine as the Golf R, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 320 hp and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. It can speed up from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 4,9 seconds, and it’s limited to a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

The SUV comes with all-wheel drive, and a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission, and weighs 3,849 pounds (1.746 kg).

In terms of pricing, the Tiguan R is priced in Europe at around €54,900, while in the UK it’s priced starting at £46.000.

For the US, the new Tiguan isn’t available yet, as it will be launched in the fall of 2021, and it will more likely be priced between $45,000 and $55,000.
