We live in a time where we have lots of car brands that provide many different models. Many have different names that date back to their beginnings or have changed their name during the years. But do you know which car brand starts with m?

Which car brand starts with the letter m?
As stated above, today there are only six brands that start with “m”, these are:
One brand from Germany, one from Italy, two from the UK, and two from Japan.
Some will argue that Maybach should be on the list, but you should know that in 2013 it ceased to be a standalone brand, and two years later it became a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz, therefore it doesn’t make much sense to add it to the list.
Other car brands like Mahindra or MG, are so localized in very few markets that it’s not worth it to put them on the list since there are hundreds of small brands that target very few markets.
Just in China, there are already more than 300 electric vehicle companies. Adding some of the ones that start with the letter m to the list would greatly bloat it.
Some background about the brands
Mercedes is the oldest one, as it was founded in 1926 by Karl Benz, Gottlieb Daimler, Wilhelm Maybach, and Emil Jellinek, which daughter Mercedes was taken as inspiration for the brand’s name. Mercedes today is one of the most important car brands in the world, and it currently, Mercedes is one of the automakers with most SUVs.
Maserati is next on the list. It was founded in 1914, in Bologna, Italy by five brothers, Alfieri, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore, and Ernesto Maserati. The carmaker started by making race cars, which eventually led to the production of street cars. Over the past years, the company has changed hands a few times. Maserati recently unveiled the Grecale crossover SUV, while the Levante is likely to receive a facelift soon.
Mclaren was founded in 1963 by Bruce Mclaren, a New Zealand race car driver, designer, and inventor. Similar to Maserati, the company started by making race cars and eventually ended up manufacturing street cars. There has been some rumors lately about Mclaren’s interest in developing an electric SUV, it’s likely that sooner or later they will enter the SUV market.
Mini is a British marque known for their small cars that started in 1969. It’s an iconic brand for the UK, and today is owned by the BMW Group. Some argue that the Mini Countryman is a crossover SUV, we aren’t sure about it as the car looks more like a slightly taller wagon, in our opinion, we don’t classified as an SUV.
Mazda’s beginnings are quite different from the rest. It started as a cork manufactured named Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd, in 1920, and it wasn’t until 1931, that they produced their first car. Then in 1984, it changed its name to Mazda Motor Corporation. Currently, Mazda has a few SUVs in their line-up.
Mitsubishi is another one with peculiar beginnings, the company started as a shipbuilding company and they produced their first car in 1917. And it wasn’t until 1970 that the company was formed into Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. Mitsubishi has many SUV models.

All these companies have many things in common, but the most important one is that they made a name for themselves and that they are still going today delivering cars all over the world.
