2023 is becoming a good year in terms of SUV releases. New models are constantly presented and some of our favorite SUVs are being redesigned, therefore, most SUV towing capacity lists are becoming obsolete. So here we provide you with the most up-to-date list of the top SUV cars with the highest towing capacity of 2023.

Note that when more than one SUV shares the same towing capacity we place them at the same position, so we can cover as many vehicles as possible; for this 2023 year, we have numerous ties, and as the year goes by we will constantly update the list to keep it up to date.

5-) TIE – 2023 Nissan Armada & 2023 Infiniti QX80 – 8,500 pounds (3,856 kg)

The only non-American SUVs on the list are the 2023 Nissan Armada and the 2023 Infiniti QX80, which essentially are the same car, except the QX80 is the luxury version of the Armada, as it comes with a better interior and better quality.

In terms of design, Infinity did a good job of making the QX80 differentiate itself as much as possible from the Armada, both cars look unique, and most people won’t be able to realize that they’re the same car.

The updated Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX80 keep the same towing capacity as the previous models, 8,500 pounds (3856 kg), which is still pretty impressive and enough for towing most things. Yet, we wish they would’ve pumped up a bit the towing capacity so it gets between 8,600 – 8,700 pounds. (3,901 – 3,992 kg).

4-) TIE – 2023 Dodge Durango & 2023 Lincoln Navigator – 8,700 pounds (3,946 kg)

The fourth position in the list is another tie since the new Dodge Durango and the new Lincoln Navigator share the same towing capacity, 8,700 pounds (3946 kg).

Even though they share the same towing capacity, both cars are almost different in all regards.

The Navigator is priced way above the Durango since it’s an SUV targeted at the luxury market, while the Durango comes in many different versions that cover different price ranges below the ones of the Lincoln.

One thing to have in mind is that while all the Navigator versions get the full 8,700 pounds (3,946 kg), in the case of the Durango, only a few versions can tow that much, some of them are the R/T and the SRT.

The other version with this towing capacity is the Durango Hellcat, the most powerful SUV in the world. The Hellcat is a 710 hp monster that takes the Durango to the next level, it looks more aggressive, it’s lighter, and way more powerful than any Durango model until now, however, there’s a caveat, the Durango Hellcat is only available for a limited time, as it will only be produced this 2023.

3-) 2023 Ford Expedition – 9,300 pounds (4,218 kg)

2023 Ford Expedition

The Expedition has ruled SUV towing capacity lists for many years, it features an enormous towing capacity, and as an SUV it’s solid on almost all aspects, yet, this year has dropped two places.

Note that the Expedition didn’t fall two positions because the updated model got worse, but because two strong contenders just appeared in the market.

The 2023 Ford Expedition is an American SUV that can tow up to 9,300 pounds (4,218 kg), a towing capacity that’s way higher than found on the Durango and the Navigator.

But don’t worry, we are expecting to see an important redesign of the Expedition in early 2024, as the car hasn’t changed much since 2017, and it needs an important update.

Ford is known for its competitiveness, so expect to see a future Expedition with a towing capacity considerably higher than the current one.

2-) 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer – 9,860 lbs (4,472 kg)

2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Introduced this 2023, the all-new Jeep Grand Wagoneer, took us by surprise. It’s not only a good-looking car, but it can also tow some serious weight, 9,860 lbs (4,472 kg).

It’s no wonder why the Ford Expedition fell from the top. The Grand Wagoneer threatens all full-size SUVs in the market, as it comes with a great-looking design, an interior that looks fantastic and reminds us of the recently-updated Grand Cherokee, and offers a wide variety of options.

The Grand Wagoneer is positioned above the Grand Cherokee, and it aims to compete with the high-end full-size luxury SUVs, like the new Cadillac Escalade, BMW X7, Lincoln Navigator, Mercedes-Benz GLS, etc.

1-) 2023 Jeep Wagoneer – 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg) – The SUV with the highest towing capacity

2023 Jeep Wagoneer

The number one goes for the new king, the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer, the SUV with the highest towing capacity.

Unveiled at the same time as its brother, the Grand Wagoneer, they are the same car, the only difference is that the Wagoneer has fewer trim options, making it the less luxurious version. However, thanks to that, Jeep has been able to focus on making the Wagoneer as practical as possible.

This practicality means that the Wagoneer has a hooping towing capacity of 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg), something never seen before in an SUV, those are numbers that you’d usually find in some of the middle-top trucks on the market.

The 2023 Wagoneer, enters a market with some fierce competitors, however, Jeep has nothing to worry about as they made sure the new Wagoneer is not only the most capable SUV in the market, but it also boasts of the new Jeep’s design philosophy, which looks great in our opinion, and has also upped the quality.

Honorable mention: TIE – 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe & Suburban, 2023 GMC Yukon – 8,400 lbs (3810 kg)

Even though the list is over, we believe the 2023 Tahoe, Suburban, and Yukon deserves an honorable mention since if our list were longer, they’d get the sixth position.

But more importantly, we want to tell you about something unusual that happened with these three. As you might know, these three cars are very closely related, and they share most of the specs and platforms. One thing they have in common is the fact that the previous versions had a higher towing capacity.

The 2019 Tahoe, Suburban, and Yukon had a towing capacity of 8,600 lbs (3,901 kg), if Stellantis would’ve kept the same capacity, the SUVs would place in fifth place in our list.

Nevertheless, the 2023 models are very capable, with a towing capacity of 8,400 lbs (3810 kg), these three models won’t find many difficulties when moving stuff.

As mentioned earlier, these three cars are quite similar in many regards, they share the same engine, a 5.3-liter V8, they have a similar fuel economy in the city and on the highway, the same six-speed automatic transmission, and a similar interior.
