SUVs are a popular choice among car buyers, they are taller than a sedan and have more space for passengers and cargo. Based on the type, SUVs have an average width, length, and height.

As you may know, we can categorized SUVs into three types based on size, crossover SUVs, midsize SUVs, and full-size SUVs. Each of these types of SUVs has an average size, which we are going to show you below in both feet and inches.

The average width of an SUV

Starting with the crossover SUV width, we know that some of the most popular models like the Honda CR-V have a width of 73.5 in. (6.1 ft.), while the Hyundai Tucson has a width of 73.4 in. (6.1 ft.), other examples are the Toyota RAV4 with 73.4 in. (6.1 ft.), and the Chevrolet Equinox with 72.6 in. (6 ft.).

This indicates that the average SUV width for crossovers will be 73.2 in (6.1 ft.).

In the case of midsize SUVs, popular models like the Jeep Grand Cherokee has a width of 77.5 in. (6.4 ft.), the Ford Explorer comes with a width of 78.9 in. (6.5 ft.), the Toyota Highlander with 76 in. (6.3 ft.), and the Lexus RX with 75.6 in. (6.3 ft.).

In this case, the average width of a midsize SUV is 77 in. (6.4 ft.).

And lastly, for full-size SUVs, we have the Chevrolet Tahoe with 81 in. (6.7 ft.), the Cadillac Escalade with 81.1 in. (6.7 ft.), the Ford Expedition with 79,9 in. (6.6 ft.), and the Toyota Sequoia with 79.6 in. (6.6 ft.).

By calculating the average we find out that the average width of a full-size SUV is 80.4 in. (6.7 ft.).

Now that we know the average of each type we can get an overall average width of SUV cars, which in this case it’s 76.8 in. (6.4 ft.).

Average SUV length

Here we are going to compare the above cars, but this time providing each SUV by length in inches and feet, and calculate how long an SUV is on average.

Popular crossover SUVs like the CR-V has a length of 184.8 in. (15.4 ft.), the Tucson has a length of 182.3 in. (15.1 ft.), the RAV4 with 181.5 in. (15.1 ft.), and the Equinox with 183.1 in. (15.2 ft.).

This translates to an average crossover SUV length of 182.9 in. (15.2 ft.).

For midsize SUVs, the Grand Cherokee has a length of 193.5 in. (16.1 ft.), the Explorer comes with a length of 198.8 in. (16.5 ft.), the Highlander with 194.9 in. (16.2 ft.), and the RX with 192.5 in. (16 ft.).

The average mid-size SUV length is 194.9 in. (16.2 ft.).

Full-size SUVs lengths are the following: The Tahoe with 210.7 in. (17.5 ft.), the Escalade with 211.9 in. (17.6 ft.), the Expedition with 210 in. (17.5 ft.), and the Sequoia with 208.1 in. (17.3 ft.).

In this case, the average length of a full-size SUV is 210.1 in. (17.5 ft.).

After calculating all SUVs by length we can know how long are SUVs, which in average SUV length, it’s 195.9 in. (16.3 ft.).

The average height of an SUV

If you wonder how tall are SUVs, we are going to answer your question right now, as we are going to go over the three types again and provide you with an average.

Crossover SUVs like the CR-V have a height of 66.2 in. (5.5 ft.), the Tucson with 66.3 in. (5.5 ft.), the RAV4 with 67 in. (5.5 ft.), and the Equinox with 65.4 in. (5.4 ft.).

The average height of a crossover SUV is 66.2 in. (5.5 ft.).

Then, midsize SUVs like the Grand Cherokee have a height of 70.8 in. (5.9 ft.), the Explorer with 69.9 in. (5.5 ft.), the Highlander with 68.1 in. (5.6 ft.), and the RX with 67.3 in. (5.6 ft.).

Therefore, midsize SUVs have an average height of 69 in. (5.7 ft.).

With all the data, we found out that the average height of an SUV is 70.3 in. (5.8 ft.).

Here are the average SUV dimensions in feet and inches.

To summarize the SUV dimensions in inches, the average width of an SUV is 76.8 inches (6.4 feet), while the average SUV length is 195.9 inches (16.3 feet), and the average height of SUV cars is 69 inches (5.7 feet).

While SUV dimensions in feet go like this: the average width of an SUV is 6.4 feet, while the average SUV length in feet is 16.3 ft., and the average SUV height in feet is 5.7 ft.

The most obvious observation is that these average SUV measurements of width, length, and height are similar to midsize SUV dimensions.
